On the Ground vs. In the Clouds

Breaking news, people: Pacific Time has reopened in the Design District! And there's also this new-fangled restaurant called Fratelli Lyon!
Yawn.
In other examples of national media reporting things WAY after the locals - this list of "most anticipated openings." Three out of the five have been open since January. May as well tack the Delano onto that list. Because, you know, it opened in 1994.

See, THIS is why I love this blog. You have all the breaking news! hehe ;)

In related news, I checked out Kobe Club last week. Ended up doing Miami Spice and still dropped $200+ haha! Part of that was due to the Australian Wagyu upgrade. I gotta say, I didnt really think it was that good. Tasted like a regular old filet to me and much smaller. Ive had the Japanese Kobe before and that was far more distinct in taste. So, that was a disappointment. The bacon app was good and it hurts to say that. Normally Id say anything associated with bacon automatically gets the "awesome" tag but this piece was cut too thick for me. It was just OK. The beef carpaccio app was the big winner though. THAT was awesome. While the food was "ok" to me, I would probably go back to check out the full menu. The service was kickass and that really surprised me. Our waiter was super friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. He even had someone cart themselves over to China Grill to get me my glass of Basil Hayden which was much appreciated. Other staff members were helpful too and that was great. I also liked the design of the space, especially the black crystal-lined ceiling. That was pretty sweet. The little bar occupying the entrance looks like a good HH spot too. Overall, I will probably go back someday but with so many restaurants on my hit list, my return is only likely to happen if someone else wants to go.

Oh, and I forgot about the little pastry puffs with Parmesan and truffle oil that were served as table bread. Those were incredible and I couldnt stop shoving them down the hatch.

zagat stale. In their defense(I feel like being Roy Black tonight) Zagat Buzz is a nationwide press blast so we should be way ahead of "buzz"

On a side and completely irrelevant note, the new channel 6 weatherman is outstanding

bm - I think Kobe Club is one of the best spice deals this season. Mostly, because the restaurant is so astronomically expensive normally and, like you said, the service is good and the food is also pretty good. A few friends went recently, stuck to the spice menu and ordered wine and it came to $50/person. Course they weren't jonesing for a glass of Basil Hayden!

Chow - even if Zagats is allowed some slack for being a national pub, they should have covered those two places maybe in one of the summer email blasts. Both have been open since late May.

Yeah, obviously the Aussie upgrade and Basil along with her wine didnt help the bill. The bill wasnt a gripe though. My only gripe was that the Aussie Wagyu really didnt do anything for me, thats all. Other than that it was decently good but not I-cant-wait-to-go-back good.
